The Keeper of The Memories

Vintage Joy

alking through one of those glorious little shops that sell Vintage and Antique treasures, I am transported back in time. I pass by familiar objects that I remember seeing at my Grandmother's home growing up.

100_2083Sweet memories dance through my mind as I continue to journey passed old photos, books and vintage things. Treasures that I have never seen before, but I cherish them all the same.

Vintage Treasures

100_2083Wondering who once owned them, and what stories they might tell. Somewhere in time the owners cherished them too.

DSC05855

100_2083I love collecting timeless works of art that stand the test of time. I wonder, was it the love that was poured into these objects that gave them life even now?

Vintage Joy

100_2083A lovely lady who might have practiced her penmanship in hopes of securing a job. A child playing with dominos and wishing upon nursery rhyme dreams.

DSC05852

100_2083Were these time pieces marking the chapters of their lives as they readied themselves to go to school for the first time, walk down the aisle, have their first child, or wait silently in their August years?

Great Aunt Adelaide's attic

100_2083As I look at each little treasure, and hold it’s wonder in my hand, I am filled with such lovely inspiration.

DSC05844

100_2083To me walking through one of these glorious little shops and taking home a small piece of someone’s history touches my heart.

DSC05854

100_2083It’s a funny thing, I seem to cherish these objects even more than my own. Yet someday treasures of mine will remind some young woman of how dearly I loved each one.

DSC05855

100_2083Sometimes I thought that perhaps I was frequenting these kinds of stores, reaching back in time to touch a sweeter more gentle time.

My Grandmother 1918The joy I feel when I stroll through one of these special places always connects me to a time that I ran home when the street lights came on, and rushed to sit at the supper table with so many of my loved ones, who have now gone home to be with the Lord.

My creation

100_2083The people who own and love these shops are the “keepers of the memories.” In charge of minding each beautiful object until it finds it’s way back home to someone’s heart. I am thankful that there are these people, these keepers of the memories who feed my soul every now and again.

Pink Saturday

Little French Bed and Calendar

painting-french-8Today is PInk Saturday and Bev from How Sweet The Sound is hosting this pink event. So, please stop by Bev's PINK SATURDAY PLACE and link to all the pretty in pink posts for this Saturday.

painting-french-3

painting-french-8Painting French. I love French inspiration, and well, if I can't get on a plane today and fly there, I will get lost in a french mood.

painting-french-4

painting-french-8I adore everything with a French flair.

painting-french-9

painting-french-8I was designing some prints for my Etsy shop yesterday, and I came up with this one. Using one of my original paintings, some antique illustrations, ephemera and a bit of script, I created the dove carrying a tiny post card boasting I LOVE PARIS. The print measures 8 x 10 inches and I used Fine Art Paper and archival inks to create a bit of French Inspiration. I call this print...I LOVE PARIS. I put I LOVE PARIS in my shop this morning.

painting-french-2Now I am sending you over to my very French inspirational lady. She lives amongst us every Pink Saturday and creates grand theatre extravaganzas for all of us to enjoy. Anita from Castles, Crowns and Cottages teaches French and everything she does has that flair. She lives in a home inspired by French castles, and if you peek around her home you will find crowns and French reflections. Hurry, if you don't delay you will catch the Third Act of Anita's play.

The song for this post is Un Jour Ou L'autre. I hope you have a very French Pink Saturday.

painting-french-3shhhhh. I purchased a gorgeous Antique Parisian black and white architectural lithograph yesterday from a new blogging friend Keri from Antique Therapy. When I got home I took this lovely artwork and digitally created the pieces in this post. She now has a beautiful corner of my absolutely favorite antique shop called Thoreauly Antiques. The illustrated hot air balloons were created using an antique page that I also purchased from another lovely lady there...Kari at Thoreauly Antiques. Keri has a lovely blog. Oh yes, what fun to meet a neighbor from the Land of Blog in person. You can meet her at her place here...she calls it Antique Therapy. I found so many wonderful posts that she wrote about French inspiration, like this one she calls French chateau style. Being an antique dealer, Keri has amazing treasures that she sells, here is a post that she wrote about Parisian ephemera.

The White Cliffs of Dover

A bluebird day

bluebirds-and-daffodilsI remember when I was a little girl, how much I loved watching old movies. I still do. They were always filled with romantic stories and lovely happy songs that left you with a sweet uplifting message. Irene Dunne starred in the movie The White Cliffs of Dover.

bluebirds-and-daffodilsToday, we don’t have to gather around a radio to catch a glimpse of the news. Or wait for the mailman to bring a letter from our loved ones.

bluebird-august-2009

bluebirds-and-daffodilsRather we know every detail, whenever and wherever we want...and some days it is overwhelming. We know what evil lurks behind every rock from Fiji to Kalamazoo. The song playing is called The White Cliffs of Dover.

Happiness-can-be-found-in-the-reflection-of-your-bluebird

bluebirds-and-daffodilsI was thinking yesterday how much we need romantic stories and happy music to serenade us today.

bluebirds-and-daffodils

bluebirds-and-daffodilsAt a time when we face so much uncertainty, just like they did during WW I, we need to hear songs like this to remind us...

There will be bluebirds over the White Cliffs of Dover, tomorrow, just you wait and see.

bluebird-basket-with-butterflies

There'll be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover,
Tomorrow, just you wait and see.

There'll be love and laughter
And peace ever after.
Tomorrow, when the world is free

The shepherd will tend his sheep.
The valley will bloom again.
And Jimmy will go to sleep
In his own little room again.

There'll be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover,
Tomorrow, just you wait and see.

bluebirds

bluebirds-and-daffodilsThe song for this post is The White Cliffs of Dover Although the movie The White Cliffs of Dover was created about WW I, the song The White Cliffs of Dover was sung in 1942 by Vera Lynn and popular during WW II.
