I'm Dream'n My Life Away on a Pink Saturday

Today is Pink Saturday and Bev from How Sweet The Sound is hosting. I was designing fabric for a fifties theme, when I thought...



why not design one for Pink Saturday too. If you click on the picture above, you can see how it would look in fabric.



"Gee Whiz", I grew up in the fifties, and I remember when the hoola hoop came on the scene in 1958.



Poodle skirts were "swell", and they were typically made out of heavy gray fabric, and we wore crinoline petticoats underneath to make them puffy. If you click on this image, you can see how it would look in fabric.



If you weren't "Square", bobby socks were worn with saddle shoes,
and we wore little baby scarfs around her neck to compliment our button down cardigan sweaters to look "keen". Here's cutie Mary Kate Olson doing a fun interpretation of the Bop, dancing at a sock hop in her poodle skirt, saddle shoes from back when. And then there was always the "Jive!"


When Spoonflower announced their upcoming fabric of the week contest for the Fifties...



I immediately went into dreamland remembering the crush I had on my favorite "Dreamboat" as I played the Everly Brothers, and I was back in time,



having hoola hoop contests with my friend Linda Isby, and going to a "Sock Hop" to practice the "stroll."



Spoonflower asked that we use a specific color pallette only consisting of red, pale green, blue, white and black. I'm not sure these colors do anything for my memories of the fifties, but then again it made the challenge even more fun. Here is the fabric design final which has been entered. My Dad was one of the cameramen on the Ed Sullivan Show when Elvis Presley performed on the show. He said that by the third time that Elvis came on the show, they were only allowed to film him from the waist up because Ed Sullivan thought his moves a bit too suggestive for that time!

Listening to piano music,



designing something for Spoonflower Fabric and their weekly contest. This week the fabric is shoes, and I designed this fabric, if you click on it...you can view it in yardage. Speaking of Shoes, Spoonflower appeared on the today show the other day.



But I wanted to view it in a mirror image for the contest, I called it SHOES, SHOES, SHOES, and it looks more like this:



Then I continued to listen to the music and thought about next week's contest, the theme is Musical Instruments.





I thought about my favorite musical instrument and what I might design, and then I knew, and if you click on the design it will take you to Spoonflower so you can see what it will look like in fabric. I am calling it With A Song In My Heart.





I couldn't find a version of the song With a Song In My Heart that I liked, so instead I love listening to Michael Feinstein play the piano and sing. The name of the song for this post is Long Ago and Faraway.






What is your favorite musical instrument? I played the violin when I was little.

Mosaic Monday

This time of year each garden gate



invites us into the secret garden.



I still am in awe how one day everything is brown and rainy, and the next day everything is green...planting seeds of new hope.

Pink Saturday

Early Friday morning I called Ink About It and asked if they had gotten the latest Artful Blogging magazine yet. Linda said no, but that they had been billed already, and the UPS man was due to arrive around 11 AM. She said that she would call me if it arrived and put one aside for me.



A little after 11 AM she called and said she was putting my copy aside. I drove there wondering if my little watercolor had made it into the article about Bev and her amazing Pink Saturday. Bev had been interviewed by Jennifer Jackson for an article in the Summer 2010 issue.



Bev submitted lots of Pink Saturday submissions, but knew that it was up to the magazine to choose which ones would make the issue. This is my 98th Pink Saturday post and well, I just love Pink Saturday and Miss Bev.



She will be posting about it today, so make sure that you stop by How Sweet The Sound and read all about it.



When I got to Ink About it, there were many people taking a class and my copy was behind the counter. I carefully leafed through the magazine.



There it was...my little Secret Garden watercolor. I squealed and let out a "yay." Completely forgetting about the class going on, and then Karen walked into the shop and said "Are you in there?" I squealed "Yes", and then she squealed too.





The first person I called of course was my mom. I got her a copy, and it’s on the way.



Better than refrigerator art.



Well, I am thrilled. Artful Blogging magazine has been my favorite magazine since the first issue. I remember squealing while standing at the mailbox the day my first copy had arrived. I own every issue, and this one is Over The Rainbow!

In keeping with the Pink Saturday tradition, I have never met Glennis Waterman from Doves2Day before. I see in the article that her photograph was chosen for the article too.
