North Carolina is filled with new things to discover. Recently I met an art teacher here who teaches Acrylic painting. Before I take a class, I thought I would paint a bit to see how the paints react.
I purchased some paints, canvases and brushes and started to paint. Watercolor is my favorite medium to work with. I tried my hand at Oil, but it takes so long to dry, and it is so messy.
This morning I discovered that I love painting with Acrylic paint. It combines the knowledge I have gained from painting for thirty years.
The paint is similar to watercolor painting, because it is a water-based medium. Yet it reminds me of oil painting on canvas, and I love the layering.
I wanted to use a familiar composition, so that I could concentrate on how the paint reacts to the canvas with different mediums.
My favorite teapot which was given to me by a very special friend, Elizabeth. You remember Elizabeth, we met last year in New York City for an amazing weekend. She prayed with me about moving to North Carolina, and helped me through much anticipation. When I returned from NYC, I had my answer.
While I was waiting for the first layer to dry, I listened to Carly sing one of my favorite songs and I decided to photograph stage one.
Obsessed, I tell you…
I am clearly obsessed with fabric design. So, there just had to be fabric on Spoonflower and pillows on Society6.
By noon, this is what I had designed.
Well, the paint is dry,
now back to adding another layer on my canvas.
It's so nice to see you busy at something you love to do. You go!!!!
Yeah! I am glad you are loving acrylic! I have never painted with it, only watercolors. I have often thought about taking some acrylic painting classes. Good for you!
Love your design. Thanks for letting me know that you pop by even when you don't have time!
Hugs,
Peny
You are so gifted, Karen. LOVE the colors you've chosen for this print, and the special friendship behind it.
While browsing for your recommended books yesterday, I stopped to read about your reunion with Elizabeth. Thank you for sharing.

Oh you sound excited over this new medium. You always do beautiful work and create such intriguing pieces of art.
What fun it must be to try something that is at once so new and yet familiar. I like what you've created!
Good morning Karen! I think that we artists, writers, performers....we are obsessed and must be. We must be passionate about what we sense in the world and with the tools to express what we think about we we experience. HAVE FUN!
Hi Karen, LOVE your newest designs and so glad you have found acrylics to be fun to work with. As you know, I taught decorative design using acrylics paints for years. Too bad we are not living near to paint together. I have painted with oils and then rembrandt oils which I love
along with watercolor and lastly on to acrylics. That was over 30 years ago now.
Yes, I can say I am obsessed too.
Lovely pillow you created and collection. Somehow I see many more designs using acrylic paints
coming from your creativity.
Have fun my friend.
Hugs
I am quite certain that you will master acrylics just as you have watercolor. They are fun and easy to use. I can't wait to see what you learn and how you use them!
I love to see where your creative mind leads you. It's all beautiful!
