Red Geraniums

DSC02167

DSC02147My friend Judy, loves her miniature red geranium
painting, which I painted for her years ago.

DSC02165

DSC02147She always says, why don’t you paint some original miniatures for your
little shop?

DSC02122

DSC02147Here is one framed in a gold gaudy frame. I painted this
composition years ago when I lived in Princeton, New Jersey.
I love it matted with a double mat, with a tweak of red.

DSC02134

DSC02147My wonderful art teacher Mary Green La Forge taught us
how to create this miniature composition.

DSC02149

DSC02147I can still hear her voice in my head, as I paint. Watch the shape, break that
line.

DSC02129

DSC02147When I got up to the red geranium request on my list of
giveaway paintings, I went a bit geranium crazy.

DSC02163

DSC02147My geraniums have been a bit water-logged these days. But
I thought why not just paint this composition.

DSC02126

DSC02147So there I was painting red geraniums...
thinking happy thoughts,

DSC02094

DSC02147When all of a sudden,
The sky grew dark
I could hear thunder rumbling in the distance.

DSC02179

“The wind began to switch
The house, to pitch
And suddenly the hinges started to unhitch
Just then the Witch
To satisfy an itch
Went flying on her broomstick,
thumbing for a hitch!”

DSC02175

DSC02147Cocoa I think that we’re not in Kansas anymore.

DSC02183

DSC02147When the storm ended,

DSC02061

DSC02147it left a waterfall of water cascading
down our garden steps.

DSC02174

Soon, we were out of the woods, out of the dark, out of the night,
and back to painting more geraniums.

DSC02185

DSC02147Oh don’t worry Sam, we’ll get your toy and dry him for you. He’ll
be as good as new.

DSC02186

DSC02147So, all my little red geranium paintings went traveling

follow-the-yellow-brick-road

down the yellow brick road right into my little shop.

I have designed a nice gift wrap, so that it is ready to give as a gift or treat yourself to a treasure.

I love geraniums. I love your geraniums -- real and painted. I work really hard to keep my geraniums going all year ... hard to do in this heat and humidity. That was quite a waterfall. Normally, I love waterfalls ... the sound of the water rushing ... but probably not in my backyard!

They are lovely, Karen. You are an inspiration.

I'm amazed at all of that water on your steps.

All geraniums in your post are beautiful. The red is so cheerful! I love that painting of Dorothy on the music paper too! Can we see more of that?
Ah that cascade of water! Unbelievable! In your photo that turns out quite picturesque having your own cascade of water in your garden. Hope everything turned out fine. Have a nice day!

Geraniums require a lot of care, but give a lot of color. I think a painting of one would be the perfect way to go for me. Glad that you are finding ways to enjoy the summer storms and all.

Your red geraniums are wonderful! And I bet it is harder to paint tiny than regular size? Is it? And the photo of the water rushing down your steps was wonderful. Wish we had some of that rain. We are soooooooooooo very dry here in Texas. That picture of poor puppy looking out so longingly.

Hi Karen
Your geranium paintings are wonderful. Geraniums remind mne of my mom because that was one of her favorite flowers to paint. I'm going to get out my paintbrushes one of these days and geraniums are the first thing I want to paint. Yours are beautiful.
Hugs, Rhondi
