The White Cliffs of Dover

A bluebird day

bluebirds-and-daffodilsI remember when I was a little girl, how much I loved watching old movies. I still do. They were always filled with romantic stories and lovely happy songs that left you with a sweet uplifting message. Irene Dunne starred in the movie The White Cliffs of Dover.

bluebirds-and-daffodilsToday, we don’t have to gather around a radio to catch a glimpse of the news. Or wait for the mailman to bring a letter from our loved ones.

bluebirds-and-daffodilsRather we know every detail, whenever and wherever we want...and some days it is overwhelming. We know what evil lurks behind every rock from Fiji to Kalamazoo. The song playing is called The White Cliffs of Dover.

bluebirds-and-daffodilsI was thinking yesterday how much we need romantic stories and happy music to serenade us today.

bluebirds-and-daffodils

bluebirds-and-daffodilsAt a time when we face so much uncertainty, just like they did during WW I, we need to hear songs like this to remind us...

There will be bluebirds over the White Cliffs of Dover, tomorrow, just you wait and see.

bluebird-basket-with-butterflies

There'll be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover,
Tomorrow, just you wait and see.

There'll be love and laughter
And peace ever after.
Tomorrow, when the world is free

The shepherd will tend his sheep.
The valley will bloom again.
And Jimmy will go to sleep
In his own little room again.

There'll be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover,
Tomorrow, just you wait and see.

bluebirds-and-daffodilsThe song for this post is The White Cliffs of Dover Although the movie The White Cliffs of Dover was created about WW I, the song The White Cliffs of Dover was sung in 1942 by Vera Lynn and popular during WW II.

What a wonderful post...I often feel like we live in an era of information overlaod, and not always the positive kind! I guess that's why I enjoy visiting in blogland, there's a peaceful serene quality about this place. Technology has helped us to choose and step back from the insanity of the world. ps. My step-niece is named Vera-Lynn and I often wondered how her name was chosen...perhaps this song???

Karen,

I have never seen the movie. I can tell I am missing something good. I am unable to watch most old movies unless they have closed caption, and most don't.

The words to the song gave me chills. We live and hope and pray just as they did in previous hard times.

I love your bluebird. I'd love to have a stack of blank notecards with the little guy on the front. Any plans for the Etsy shop?? ;-)

xoxo

Exactly... My growing up years were spent in the Theatre while my father finished the books. He was the theatres manager- So I got to see movie after movie.

Where are the simple good upbeat totally nieve movies. I think there would be still an audience for us dreamers. Simple good stories with predictable endings.

This was stunning. Thanks so much for stopping by today. I had the opportunity to see The Secret Garden in NYC with a group of girlfriends-- Mandy Pantinkin played the lead!

Thanks for the upbeat moments.

I know the song, but I have never known this was a movie too. I totally agree with you on the overload of information we have. My daughter and her friends are msn-ing all day, if you would let them. Everybody knows 'everything' in minutes and let me tell you that everything is not positive. Thanks for showing us the bluebird, he definitely gives me positive vibes and energy, thanks! Have a great weekend!

"evil around every corner"....boy you got that right. It seems our local news almost makes up stuff when there is no news to report....and they can't make up good stuff...it has to be bad stuff to make you worry. I love that first photo with the little bird by the fountain Karen. Have a super great weekend. xo Lynn

I agree about our need for romance in our lives.

My best stories come from real life experiences.
