Dream Maker

Envelope Inspiration for fabricYou know I have never considered myself to be an artist. I think I am actually a designer. Always in search of new mediums to use to make my dreams come true. I call these resources Dream Makers.

French Postage fabric large

Envelope Inspiration for fabricOne day when I was in my favorite store in the whole world...Nesting on Main, I purchased this wonderful old French Encyclopedia.

Envelope Inspiration for fabricWhen I got to the counter, Wendy and I were admiring the illustrations inside the book, when an envelope fell out of the book. OMG, we both squealed at the French postage and thought it was gorgeous enough to be artwork itself.

Envelope Inspiration for fabricAll the way home I was dreaming. Dreaming of French Postage lampshades, pillows, chairs, drapes and canvases. Dream designing and I knew just the dream maker that I could use to make my design dreams come true, they are called Spoonflower, and thanks to them I was able to make French Postage dreams come true.

French Postage Large Centered

Envelope Inspiration for fabricThe fabric arrived! I chose a linen canvas because I could see it as a canvas. I have ordered this design in several different fabrics, which will be coming this week. I ordered a fat quarter of fabric, large enough to fit on a 16 x 20 canvas size.

French Postage

Envelope Inspiration for fabricBack in the late 70’s we used to cover canvas frames with fabric in modern designs at a place called Fabrications in the city. So I was familiar with the concept. Here is a wonderful tutorial that I found the other day showing how this is done. The only difference in the way I am creating the canvas, is that I purchased a regular canvas 16 x 20 on sale, so that I don't have to put the frame together myself. I think that the canvas offers a nice cushion for the fabric.

French Postage

Envelope Inspiration for fabricI have two French Postage designs in my gallery. One is large and centered and one is a smaller scale in a repeat, which someone ordered in upholstery fabric. Ooooooh a chair, or curtains. Here is the repeat smaller scale fabric, if you click on the image you can see how it looks as a repeat design in fabric:

French Postage LARGE

And here is the large scale centered version that I used to create the fabric for my canvas. If you click on the image you can see how it is centered on a fat quarter:

I can create any scale or design using my French Postage design, and I have more fat quarters arriving soon in different fabrics weights.

Destination Bluebird AdventureI am so excited, I found another dream maker last week, and I am meeting him with my design ideas this week.

French Postage Canvas

Envelope Inspiration for fabric So, I am off today with staple gun in hand to create a canvas thanks to my fabric dream maker.
