Color Theory
Sunday, October 24, 2010
We are learning about color theory in art class.
Our assignment this week is to create a color wheel and using just three colors see how many colors we can create.
It seems like this is an exercise I have done ever since Kindergarten, yet it seems more on purpose somehow.
It's making me notice all the colors that surround our lives.
I love it when nature visits through a window and seems to invite itself inside.
Reminding you that they were here first before we thought of mixing colors together...
to decorate a room,
to accent a photograph,
to paint a painting, or to design.
This time of year the voice of nature seems more like thunder to me than a whisper.
Announcing "Here I am"
boasting colors that take our breath away.
Whether against the backdrop of a gray sky,
or reflecting it's beauty in a glorious sunset
and then spilling onto the clothes we choose to wear.
Nature's color says it best.
Color theory, a good place to make yourself more aware of the beauty on our canvas. Any exercise that makes me more mindful about life seems to be a good lesson.
The song for this post is Color You In.
Wow Karen! These photos are so beautiful. The colors pop and make you realize how inspiring mother nature really is! Beautiful post!
Hugs,
Penny

Karen I was surfing before bed, tired, now that I have come to your post, I am wide awake, happy, inspired. I simply love color. I am coming back in the morning. thank you, cinner.
You are a master at storytelling, color combination, and teaching. Karen, you have all the colors on your palate mixed to perfection. You are my teacher in more ways than one, seriously. You are the one that taught me in a quiet way, how to blog. I am grateful to you for so much, and these colors here are a joyous expression of our hearts to you dearest one. How I would love to meet you.....Anita
Gorgeous, Karen. Yes ... color theory ... get out and see color in its true form ... Mother Nature! YeeHaw!!!!!!!
The www is having troubles this morning. I've waited for your post to fully load, but have decided that I can declare it beautiful even if I can see just six photos and not all. This must be an interesting exercise for an artist...simple and direct and I like how you said "with more purpose."
Gorgeous post, Karen! I loved studying color theory but my professor was a bit of a snit...nothing was quite good enough no matter how we mixed our paint. Still I loved it anyway since I love color sooooo much!
This was a fabulous visit! Thanks!
Coralie
Wow! What a fun art lesson today, and you are a marvelous teacher. Such beauty in nature, don't you agree?
Love this song too,
Debi
For some reason I only hear your music when I am in the US, and not in the UK. Makes viewing your posts more fun in the US!
Love this post, great pictures!
Dear and precious Karen,
I am home now, where I love to be the most, and I am able to visit with you to thank you for your lovely comment. Like I have said before, I have learned much from YOU. You continue to teach me and encourage me, and I can say with full confidence that you are my mentor in so many ways. This is such a gorgeous post as well, and color can teach us so many things. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!! Much love to you, Anita
How lovely! I'm just learning to paint myself. Right now I'm learning about shading.
