Have I ever told you that when I was a little girl I adored Deanna Durbin movies.
And my favorite thing to do was visit my Grandmother and rummage through the drawers of her old secretary to find her old photos.
It had once belonged to my Great Aunt Adelaide and now it lives in my art room....and the drawers are still filled with old photos. Only now the doors have curtains of black and white toile.
Another favorite cupboard is filled with Vintage things.
I love to sit in this place and bask in my artful clutter.
It gives me ideas...
and reminds me of projects that I find inspiring.
Memories, and childish things
and new supplies to get lost in and dream about.
I recently tried to get rid of as much clutter as I could,
and then I decided that I just needed to be surrounded by my favorite things.
And sitting in my art room.
when the house is quiet is my favorite time of all.
Deanna Durbin still brings a smile to my face, and so does sitting in a room of my own with Grandma's secretary and having a room of my own.
What a wonderful way to be inspired. Your Grandma's secretary is a fabulous piece of furniture, even more so because of your sweet memories.
Hugs,
Penny
The music in the background as I read this post was just gorgeous! I loved seeing your special creative space and all the little treasures that surround and inspire you. No wonder you are such a creative person!
Hope your week has been lovely so far..keep creating and enjoy the rest of the week, Karen.
Best wishes,
Natasha.
There is something about a cabinet, a drawer, a closed DOOR that brings out the CHILD in me as well, dearest. I used to love to open my mother's linen closet that was lined in CEDAR...just the smell would wisk my imagination away!!! Anita
Karen, thank you for sharing one of your sources of inspiration. You have such lovely things.
I am inspired when I find time alone in my room, too.
Ooooh, those book spines are soooo beautiful. Those alone are inspiring all kinds of ideas for me. Love your space~
Karen, yes, yes,YES. This entire post speaks to me. I love to be in my cluttered room. It is my favorite place to be. Thank you.
I enjoyed my visit to your lovely blog. Hugs!
I remember Deanna. What a great resource of her movies there. I'll be going back to enjoy some more.
What intrigues me about this is that you couldn't let your things go. Perhaps that is going to be my story for it just keeps piling higher. You certainly keep your treasures beautifully displayed.
My grandmothers, neither of them, ever allowed me to snoop, as much as I would've loved it. A great-grandmother did allow it and I still dream of those times to this day.
