On A Snowy Day

snowscape

It's been snowing on an off here since Thanksgiving...which is why my mailbox still has the colors of mums. I never did get to create a new arrangement for Christmas. The snow decided to decorate the arrangement and make it look like the holiday season. I love when mistakes turn out to look perfectly planned.

Another snowy day in New England. It is one of those pretty wet snows that blanket the yard and that cover everything with nature's icing. Snowy days always make me want to create.

Painting snow scenes is one of my favorite subjects. Everywhere I look would make a perfect painting composition today. My art teacher from years ago said to look for all the shades of purple and blue with patches of pink.

We live near a lake and the snow scene is really pretty, photographing the snow is always nice.

Sometimes it's just lovely to take a walk in the snow.

I find myself wanting to bake and cook on snowy days. I just baked some gingerbread, which I'll serve after supper with some whipped cream. Reading, baking or making crafts is fun on snowy days. I found a link to some wonderful ideas for a snowy day.

A quilt, brownies & a cup of tea
Reading in my favorite chair is so nice on a snowy day. It got even nicer, when my sister, Lynne made this beautiful toile lap quilt for me for Christmas. It matches the beautiful pillow she designed for me for Christmas last year. She also sent me a tin of her delicious brownies. My sister Lynne bakes delicious baked goods and my sister Susan creates her own blends of tea. What more can a sister ask for?

hmmmmmmmm, maybe a dove peeking from the Gazebo roof.

When the snow is so fluffy and the flakes are ever so big, there is only one thing left to do...

That reminds me of another fun thing to do on a snowy day, read blogs...My sister just put this cute little video of her dog Fiona on her blog.

P.S. If you live in one of those warm places on the globe...here is a virtual snowman that you can build.

The name of the song for this post is Once Upon A Time. Snowy scenes always make everything look just like a fairytale.
Once Upon A Time...I was blessed with two incredible sisters, who inspire me every day. Snowy days always give me the time to count my blessings. I guess after all my choices of things to do on a snowy day, counting my blessings gives me the most joy.

Thanks Alison. I love snow and this season we have broken the record for snow accumulation so far, and we have several more months to go. Karen

Hi Karen,
Your snow covered world looks lovely! Here in NC we are suppose to get flurries where I live tonight and tomoorrow. About 40 miles north, they are suppose to get 6 inches.

I love you and your sisters paintings! They are so comforting to look at.

I hope 2008 is a FABULOUS year for you and your family. I am so glad I have had this chance to "meet" you!
