The Adventures of The Tinsel Trading Company

The Tinsel Trading Company

I was so excited to visit New York this week, and even more excited to be able to finally get to visit The Tinsel Trading Company. Their new web site is even bigger and better than before. They are located on 38th Street between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue in the Fashion district of Manhattan. There is so much to see you have to spend hours there or go back several times. I had some designs in mind for some new canvas creations, so I knew what I needed. Otherwise, I suspect I would have been there all day.

From the outside the store looks different than any shop on the block. You just know from the window display outside that you are in for a real treat. Uh oh, there is my reflection as I snap photos of this wonderful treasure chest of embellishments.

Inside the doors of the Tinsel Trading Company there are floor to ceiling notions, trims, embellishments, appliques, and treasures of all sorts.

I found the staff so helpful, they will climb to the tippy top of the ladder in search of whatever you need. Besides finding your embellishments, they will also carefully wrap each piece as if it were the most special treasure of all. They were so friendly too, I asked them if I could take their picture to share with you.

They have wonderful workshops given by all the people that you love including Terry Ventura , Loretta Marvel and Charlotte Lyons, to name a few.

The schedule is on their web site, as well as all the magazines that have featured their store. Mary Engelbreit has an interview on her podcast with Marcia Ceppos, the owner of Tinsel Trading Company.

While I was there I went across the street to their other shop called The Store Across The Street and was greeted by another smiley face as I browsed through papers, glitter and ribbons. They were having a wonderful sale on their lovely selection of french ribbon. They have all of Martha Stewart's products and she says that these stores are her favorite shops. The decorative paper was tempting, but I was a bit reluctant to carry it back in my suitcase. If you go on their web site you can order on-line. They have a brand new web site that has lots and lots of tabs to take you to your heart’s desire.

Here is a box of inspiration that I selected from the wide array of wonder from their shops. These wonderful ribbons, embellishments and adornments are for some canvas creations I have recently designed. I am so excited, I can hardly wait to begin.

I was so happy to finally step inside this wonderful place. It is everything I thought it would be from magazine features that I have read and the interview I listened to on Home Companion magazine. I hope you get to visit if you are in Manhattan soon, or just visit their web site and you will spend so much time peeking through the tabs that lead you to all things that spell my favorite word, EMBELLISHMENT.

I couldn't wait to have my morning coffee today, so that I could sit and read The French-Inspired Home by Kaari Meng of The French General.

What I love about the book, besides the oodles of inspiration about decorating, are the wonderful graphics and ideas for embellishing.

She has also taught classes at The Tinsel Trading Company, and that is exactly where I got my copy of her book.

I selected a bit of dreamy window shopping music, not too frisky, just background enough so we can browse properly at all the eye candy. The name of this song is Pascal.

I forgot to mention that I also purchased this cute little bluebird to add to my nest.

When my husband, Ned was due to head into N.Y.C. for a Tuesday meeting, we heard that a snow storm was brewing here, making it impossible for him to travel in on Monday as planned. I suggested that he travel on Sunday instead. So, he asked if I would go too. I packed my bags immediately, and went along. It was so nice too, because I could have the day to mozy around while he was in meetings. I went down my old block and visited where I used to live on the upper East side.

Next time Ned has to go in to N.Y.C. I think I'll arrange for my sister Susan to meet me so that we can take a class at the Tinsel Trading Company. Susan lives in Pennsylvania.
