Today is Pink Saturday and Bev from How Sweet The Sound is hosting this special event. To celebrate I thought I would paint one of my favorite compositions...dried roses.
nce upon a time, when we lived in Hong Kong, we often visited the Christmas fairs. A friend of my mom's created these magnificent dried rose pots, which she sold at her booth. Painting them became my passion. I have painted them in large paintings, miniatures, and on ceramics too.
These ceramic plates are more dried rose creations. My girls and I love to go to those paint your ceramics places and spend the day painting. We have been doing this for years and we still go on special days like Mother's Day.
I love dried roses, I often hang them to dry on my baker's rack.
This painting was framed in Hong Kong. The frames there are so inexpensive, so it was so much fun to have mirrors and paintings framed there.
To celebrate this Pink Saturday, I chose my favorite composition, and painted a 5 x 7 size watercolor painting.
I started with a sketch, and used watercolor painting to add the roses, leaves, pot and details.
Then I painted the wash of paint to form the shape I want to have in the design.
I love a painting at the very beginning stages, because it leads you to where it wants to go.
Now I just needed to put the original in a frame.
I found this wonderful 8 x 10 photo frame with roses all around the border, it holds a 5 x 7 image and really compliments the painting. I love how it stands up ready to place perfectly on a tabletop, bookcase, or counter.
Now there are many more Pink Saturday posts to explore over at Bev's Place. Wishing you a very Happy PINK adventure.
The song for this post is One And Only.
Bev, thank you for all of your Pink Inspiration.
When I was finished painting all the pages in the book, I stood it up along my mantle to show you how fun these little journals look when you stand them up.

PS, I forgot to mention, 25 women will be here for a wedding shower brunch at 10:30. All family! My great niece is getting married. I won't have time to visit much this AM. I'll post it on Mon. Smile!
Happy Pink Saturday, Karen. It is you that is the inspiration. You inspire me with your love and interpretation of beauty.
Your painting this week is just lovely, and I also love the one you had framed in Hong Kong. We have a great framer here that is about one-third the normal cost, and they do the framing while you wait. They are only open on the weekend, and you have to get there early and wait your time in line.
Oh Karen,
What BEAUTIFUL work! You are so talented! The plate and the framed picture are Fantastic!
If it is OK, I would love to add you to my favorites BLOGS!
HAVE A GREAT DAY!
