Sights and Sounds on the way to Vermont

DSC03681

On the way to and from Vermont, I captured some lovely photos of the scenery. Since it is about a four hour drive there, to pass the time I listened to my ipod. My daughter Ashley and her friend were tuned into their own ipods, so I was free to listen to whatever I chose. I thought I would share the sights and sounds with you today.

I have always loved resources...libraries, web sites, podcasts, book stores, museums...and the list goes on and on. One of the best things about moving is that you get to discover all the nearby resources. I love that.

I enjoy my ipod because not only does it contain my music and photographs, but a wide array of podcasts.

This weekend I listened to Craftcast with Alison Lee. She is definitely my kind of gal, because on her podcasts she introduces you to her latest favorite song, a conversion about what is currently in her garden and an interview with some really talented people. So, along with her artistic talents to create crafts, she uses this multi-media as a medium to create a very enjoyable blog and podcast.

Alison Lee's web site is dedicated to the mission “listen, learn and create.” I subscribe to her podcast on itunes, but she also has a link on her web site. She has this new thing called Master Class with Alison Lee. She features different “how to” classes for all kinds of interesting projects.

Now the really cool part about her web site is, each post has a “Listen to this weeks show HERE” button. So, if you just want to listen to the related podcast for a particular project you can. Alison also has This Weeks Shownotes, where she lists highlights from each podcast. Resources...DVD’s, books, music, and other amazing resources.

During our drive I stopped occasionally to photograph the view.

As I drove, I also listened to music from my favorite playlist. My playlists are broken down into romantic music, Hong Kong music, Soundtracks and favorite performers. I listened to my favorite songs, lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager.

Her lyrics seem to have punctuated the chapters of my life...A Gruvy kind of love, which she wrote at nineteen was my first love song that I shared with my first beau. After my divorce in 1979 she wrote I'd Rather Leave While I'm in Love, sung by Rita Coolidge.

After my divorce, I lived and worked in Manhattan, one of my favorite things to do was go to the theater. I went to see the Broadway play called They're Playing Our Song”, a Neal Simon play based on the love story of Carole Bayer Sager and Marvin Hamlisch. A wonderful play, filled with music written by the two of them. It played on Broadway for quite a long run, and I got to see it several times with different casts.

When I returned from Hong Kong and moved to Canada I sent away for Carole Bayer Sager's CD and when I heard her songs, I wept. It was like coming home to an old friend. She has written the lyrics to some of my all time favorite songs, most recently The Prayer, and Thankful. She has written songs for so many performers. It is remarkable when you think of just how many songs that she has written.

I recently found Carole Bayer Sager's web site, which is also amazing. There are videos on there too, one of which is an interview with Charlie Rose. It's funny but when we think of a favorite song, we think of the performer or the composer. To me, the song writer who writes the words that touch my heart is so important.

I hope you enjoyed all the scenery and my favorite music, and learning about my favorite podcast. The song for this post has lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager of course. It is the song from another favorite movie of mine, You've Got Mail, sung by Carol King, performing the song Anyone At All.

I hope that your day is filled with blue skies and beautiful music.

Your pictures are simply stunning! Vermont looks a lot like Austria here in Europe. Thanks for always making a post that is a feast for the eye and the ear. I have to admit that I usually have the sound off on my computer, but here I can safely put it on! Have a nice day too!

Karen, what beautiful vistas you saw and shared from your drive.

Carol Bayer Sager is a long-time favorite of mine - as in Marvin Hamlisch. I adore Carol's work, and it seems like her words speak to our hearts.
