Blue Ribbons of Heart's Desire

bird-with-blue-ribbonsThere is a place within our hearts where hidden dreams live. No matter how old we are or what our position in life, those dreams fill us with joy. Sometimes those desires speak to us in the night during sweet dreams.

bird-with-blue-ribbonsWhen I was in my early thirties my artwork was mainly done in pencil. I enjoyed taking classes in figure drawing, but my attention always focussed on the faces.

Pencil portrait

bird-with-blue-ribbonsI visited a nearby art gallery one day and fell in love with a portrait. The subject of the artist was her daughter. I studied the blue ribbons blowing in the breeze from the wedding veil. I was mesmerized, if only I could paint like that.

New England Bride

victorian ladyI studied with a wonderful watercolor artist, named Mary La Forge. I fell in love with watercolor and continued to use this medium for all these years. I started painting around the same time I had become more devout in my faith.

bird-with-blue-ribbonsI studied oil painting eight years ago, and was able to bring to life the painting which inspired me all those years ago.

New England Bride

bird-with-blue-ribbonsBlue ribbons live in all of my dreams, which tie to my heart’s desire to create.

bird-with-blue-ribbonsTo this day, you will find blue ribbons dancing in many of my designs. Reminding me how God placed my heart’s desire to paint inside me, and how He fulfilled my joy.

bird-with-blue-ribbonsAll that we have to do is take that first step and we become one with the source of light...our Lord.

My creation

"Delight yourself in the Lord
and He will give you the desires of your heart."
Psalm 37:4

here-comes-the-brideSometimes when we take time to be alone with God and still our soul, whispers of how to fulfill those dreams suddenly are revealed. The song for this post is Be Still Thy Soul.

I believe we should never give up on our dreams. Each season of our lives provides opportunity for growth and learning and chances to make those dreams come true if we only try. I am so glad your dreams in painting have come true! My sister in law was just admiring your paintings on my wall this weekend:>)

Beautiful song, beautiful thoughts, which inspire me to ponder it again. I have no idea what my dream might be. Yes, it's painful to confess, but I am one of those middle-aged women who has not yet got a clue.
