The same Bev who hosts glorious Pink Saturday from How Sweet the Sound also participates in Spiritual Sunday. After reading her post and listening to a beautiful hymn she had posted, I felt compelled to share something.
When I awoke this morning, I began to dash for my “to do list” and think about what I wanted to accomplish today. I grabbed a cup of coffee and went onto the deck only to be greeted by the hummingbird.
I watched as this gossamer winged reminder of God’s grace feasted on the Jacob’s Ladder in my garden. I stilled my spirit and listened for God’s voice.
It reminded me to put away the busyness of my life today and take a minute to reflect. I remembered another morning when I had watched my little friend.
I had just finished reading Proverb 5:23:
“Above all else guard your heart
for it is the wellspring of life”
"When I glanced up and I saw my little friend the hummingbird hovering over each red flower. As she gathered the sweet nectar, I could see God’s parable. I am as small as the hummingbird in comparison to the Great Almighty. As I hover over the scripture, I am guarding my heart as the Word says to do, by providing it with the nourishing sweet nectar of God’s Word. Meditating in the morning is so important for me. I am guarding my heart as a result throughout the day. We need God's word alive in us to help us sustain the right attitude in the days of so much turmoil. A short while meditating on the Lord's word always strengthens my faith and helps me to feel confident in an uncertain world."
Yesterday I was outside trying to photograph the Hummingbird. Sometimes the voice of God comes in an unexpected symbol, the voice of a friend, the gentle touch when we need encouragement, words that seem to resonate in our hearts and awaken our spirit.
Sometimes we just know what God’s personal message is to us, and it changes our priorities to where they belong. In this song the lyric “Your voice is breath to my soul” “I can hear your voice when I come close to you.”
When I still my soul and stand in that place where God’s voice lives, I can see God’s symbols and hear in my spirit the reminder.
Just a whisper of a time, yet it changes the entire day for me. The song for this post is I Can Hear Your Voice, and the lyrics say it all.
Having just left Beautiful Pear Tree Lane, I am finding a similar thought woven through. Wonderful words for today and every day. Thanks, Karen!
Oh Karen! Thank you for stopping by today and giving me a Spiritual Sunday greeting and thanks for this wonderful post. Absolutely beautiful. I love the hummers, and I have one that talks to me every day. I am always amazed at the strength and power in such a tiny little bird. It reminds that even when we are small, just one little voice in all of the world, we are mighty. I hope you have a wonderful blessed day. Thanks again for sharing with me. Country Hugs and love, Sherry
Hi Karen,
Yes! Like you say God is everywhere~
So much beauty for us to behold, if we only have the eyes to see.

Beautiful!
Karen now that I have put my reading glasses on... You have said it all. Thank you for your wonderful post. Have a glorious Sunday. Sharon
Hi Karen,
Thank you for your beautiful and inspirational Spiritual Sunday post. The Humming Bird is truly a lovely work of the Lord's art and creation.
I love the charming painting that you created for Celese - there is something so soft and romantic about a water color.
Have a lovely week.
Blessings,
Erin
Beautiful post, Karen.
Hugs,
Donna
Karen, this is such a wonderful testament to your faith. It means so much to me that we have become friends. I believe God uses your voice and your gifts to demonstrate His grace.
I love participating in Spiritual Sunday. I have been doing it for quite some time now, and I almost always post one of the "old" hymns that are so dear to my heart. Spiritual Sunday is wonderful, and it is hosted by Charlotte and Ginger each week. God is using them to speak of His grace, too.
I am so happy I found your blog, there is beauty to behold for the eye and for the spirit here.
A timely reminder to stop... and let Him speak.
Dear Karen,
Your words and photos say it all for me. You are so gifted and your light shines so bright. If you have time, come by to see the photo I took of your beautiful lavender watercolor. My silly little photos do no justice to your talents, but the post comes from my heart. Fondly, Anita
Dear Karen,
YOU MUST go to Provence; being an artist? It is a must see and dare I say--a pilgrimage for artists!! You will gasp at the beauty and will immediately want to capture it. But you did a splendid job on my painting and I will cherish it forever. It hangs beautifully in my little Provençal style kitchen.
Blessings, Anita
My morning devotions set the tone for the entire day for me. I can certainly see a difference in my attitude and how the day goes when I miss them. God speaks to us quite often through His beautiful creation doesn't He? Seeing these beautiful things are always a reminder of God's love. I always see them as a gift from Him just for me:>)
Another beautiful post. I just love coming here (even if I have to go back and read several posts at once because I've been particularly busy!) laurie
Oh Karen this is a lovely post. I try to live this way everyday. Those pics of the hummingbird nipping at the Jacob's Ladder are amazing...HE speaks even in this moment that you captured by digital photo. The symbolism...the hummingbird...the bright red Jacob's Ladder...I love it! Thank you for sharing.
