Outdoor Wednesday

Every Wednesday Susan from A Southern Daydreamer hosts Outdoor Wednesday. An opportunity to visit the outdoors in other parts of the globe without making reservations. Just stop by Susan's place and visit all the outdoor places.I recently took a drive to Newport, Rhode Island. The day was beautiful, but not nearly as beautiful as the day I took these photos a while back.

A Day in Newport, originally uploaded by bluebirdsandteapots.

My creation
The sun was shining, the cool breeze and a blue sky seemed to paint the promise for a glorious day. I was in the kitchen making lunches for my daughter Ashley and her friends. They were off to go fishing on the nearby lake. Canoe on top of my daughter's friends car and a cooler of good things to eat and drink they were off down the driveway.

My creationI went into the house, packed a lunch, grabbed my camera and headed off on an adventure. I decided to head for Newport, Rhode Island. I knew that I would be back in time for dinner if I hurried.

My creation

Newport, Rhode Island is simply gorgeous in the summer. I get such a thrill when I drive over the bridge to Newport. When I got there it was early afternoon, and the lighting was spectacular. I had packed a lunch and my paint box in case I was inspired to paint. I painted a bit and then headed for the tip of Newport to take some photographs.

My creation

In the distance I could see colorful sails and they were coming closer.

I waited patiently for them to come a bit closer,

while I just enjoyed this amazing day.

One by one, they passed by like a colorful parade.

My creation

It was a feast of sailboats.

My creation

I didn't know where to point my camera first...

It was such a magical day, I wished it could last forever.

Then as I watched the boats head for home, I knew that I better pack up my things and start for home myself.

Mr. Seagull said goodbye.

On the drive heading back along the shore,

I stopped by the side of the road to capture this sunset. The icing on the cake!!

Every time I get homesick for the tip of Long Island in New York, I remind myself what a quick drive it is to see the many beautiful places here in New England. So many places to see and enjoy.

The song for this post is Sailing.

Karen, this was breathe taking!!!! I posted a sailboat at sunset on the Pacific & you posted daytime on the Atlantic. Marvelous! I wish it was as easy for me to get to the beach as it is for you!!!! Mine takes airplane rides, time & lts of $$$$$. But, the beach/waves soothe my soul & make my heart so very happy. Thanks for sharing!

Good morning dear friend! Your posts are always so positive, bright and happy! You send me fond memories of my stay in New England; I will never forget a trip to Rhode Island many years ago. My husband made a mistake and got on that loooooong bridge to who knows where and then made a sharp u-turn that scared the pants off of me and our guests in the back seat! What a wild driver he is....have another wonderful day of exploring and making the world a more beautiful place with your love! Anita

Your photos are awe inspiring! I have a good friend that lives in RI, so I've been fortunate to visit Newport on several occasions. The area is so beautiful.

Also had a sailboat years ago, so seeing the photos of the colorful sails billowing in the wind brought back a flood of wonderful memories. Thank you for sharing!

Happy Wednesday. Hope you stop by my place for a visit.

Hi Karen
I felt like I was right with you, right beside you sitting there watching the magnificent colors passing by.
My sister used to live in Long Island. We would go to the beach in the Hamptons. Your State looks just as pretty.
Thanks for the great pictures.
Happy OW
