DSC02964Today is Pink Saturday, hosted by the lovely Bev from How Sweet The Sound. If you stop by Bev's place, you can read all of the Pink Posts.

DSC02964Kindred spirits arrive in your life and you recognize them by their work, the sound of their voice and the things in common you share.. .with the words they write, lyrics familiar, the way they view life, and the color pallet of their paintings. It was just like that when I first discovered the artwork of Susan Rios.

DSC02952

DSC02964When my best friend, Judy took me to see the artwork of Susan Rios in 1989, I instantly fell in love. At my baby shower, a year prior, Judy didn’t buy cutie little baby clothes. Instead, she knew that I too needed a bit of baby care, and she gave me the coffee table book of the artwork of Susan Rios. That was twenty-one years ago, and I still cherish this book and get joy looking at her artwork.

DSC02965

DSC02964Here is the card that Susan Rios wrote to me when I met her at that art show in Short Hills, New Jersey. I was just beginning to paint watercolors and she told me that she started by painting cards.

DSC02951

DSC02956Sigh, I was so inspired and still am in awe of Susan. Her feminine style and compositions are a joy. I also have her Designer Scrapbooks book, which is totally wonderful. I have given her illustrated books by to my mother and my friends.

DSC02963

DSC02954Susan’s new web site is wonderful, and she continues to create the most beautiful paintings. She is also illustrating many books with her publishing company. My sister, Lynne lived in the same town in California and she gave me a beautiful giclee' canvas and a signed calendar.

DSC02957

DSC02955When I read that she will be featured in Where Women Create magazine in 2009, I was thrilled. I adore this magazine and now my favorite artist will be featured. I can’t wait to see her art studio.

DSC02955

DSC02955"Her work is featured on Thought apex, which is a column inspired by love, angels, and positive thoughts. The artwork featured is used by permission of the world-renowned artist Susan Rios."

DSC02959I love this song by Secret Garden, it is called The Promise. So many people arrive at our doorsteps and awaken the promise that has been living inside of our hearts all along.

judy collagePerhaps that is why we recognize them instantly as our kindred spirits. It was like that with my friend Judy, and she continues to inspire me. Always introducing me to lovely things and awakening those special heartstrings that live inside of me. I am thankful that she introduced me to this wonderful artist and for the many inspirations that continue to add light to my life.

I have several of her coffee table books as well. I especially enjoy her combinations of florals -- often i think to myself had i painted that i wouldve never thought of combining the numerous variety. They work so well and I am also in awe.

Thanks for sharing.

What a fun display of Pink Saturday.

Oh Karen! You made it to the play! Hang on tight, next weekend will be act 2. I am amusing myself....like you with painting, I live on writing. I may be corny at the moment, but I hope to one day write like a real writer! In the mean time, I laugh a lot. Balzac is a real dog (I named him that) that I encountered in Paris in a real fashion salon! I want to tell his story....Anita

I am always humbled when you visit with me, honey. You are such an inspiration to many. BUT today when I saw you're a Susan Rios devotee than I knew in an instant we are definitely kindred spirits, sweeetpea. I found her in the late 80s and have many of her prints and have actually dedicated a wall in my home to her. We've corresponded by email at different times and she's one of the loveliest artists I know and certainly my favorite artist of all times. I also have her book and just treasure it. She's a sweet lady.
xoxo,
Connie

Hi Karen! Such a lovely tribute to Susan's work. She is amazing, as are YOU! I just had to let you know that I've just seen Celeste's post on your watercolor she had framed & it looks beautiful. We were talking about you on the phone the other day ~ were your ears burning?!?! We plan to meet in person soon & boy, if I go to her house she better hide that painting or it just might find it's way home with me! :0)

Happy PS!

Karen I am starting to think we are like souls. When I was visiting a dear friend back in the 80's we went to a gallery featuring Susan Rios. When I returned home I was haunted by her work and called the gallery for her lovely book. I treasure it and sit and dream when I look through it. I shall have to visit her website. Sharon
