Newbury Street Country French Inspiration
Monday, November 16, 2009
Certainly a visit to the dentist office is not what I typically look forward to...however, when they moved their office to Newbury Street it made it much more pleasant.
Newbury Street in Boston, is an upscale shopping district made up of fancy shops, great bistros and fun people watching.
I had fun window shopping and browsing through a delightful French Country shop.
While browsing, I couldn't help but notice a print of an Antique Hot Air Balloon painting. It was in a great big fat gold frame and it was hundreds of dollars. I couldn't wait to get home to design something similar.
I took a hot air balloon design, which I created using an Antique French print and added this chunky French Country frame.
I chose my favorite kind, which you can either stand up or hang on the wall. It's sitting on a shelf in my little etsy shop. But I can assure you it does not cost hundreds of dollars.
The song for this post was created for the television show called CHEERS, it is called Where Everybody Knows Your Name. The building where the show was filmed is around the corner from Newbury Street.
A finished dental appointment, a bit of window shopping, people watching, add a bit of creative inspiration, and I would say that it was a trip worthwhile. Top it off with a delicious cranbury scone and a good cup of coffee for the ride home (I took the scenic route) and it was a very nice day after all.
Every Wednesday Susan from A Southern Daydreamer hosts Outdoor Wednesday. An opportunity to visit the outdoors in other parts of the globe without making reservations.
oday is Mosaic Monday, and Mary from Little Red House, is hosting this lovely day.
Now that looks like a street I could spend hours on! Especially the Country French Shop.
Love your hot air baloon design. It looks wonderful in that chunky ornate frame.
Have a wonderful day!

Sooooooooo GLAD I popped over for a visit... my heart is beating fast looking at these photos... le sigh!
Hi Karen,
I love Boston! I had the pleasure of visiting Boston with my husband while he was on a business trip and he took me to Newbury Street we also went into Cheers for a bit of a warmer.
I adore Pierre Deux, we have a store in San Francisco, Ca where I shop.
I could spend hours and hours up and down Newbury Street.
What a wonderful memory you brought back for me.
Enjoy your day,
Elizabeth
Karen, this is wonderful. I would love to be with you on Newbury Street, although I wouldn't want to be going to the dentist! ;-)
Listen, a friend of mine is going to be contacting you about possibly doing a painting for her. Her name is Jody so be on the lookout. Thanks!
XO,
Sheila :-)
What a great mosaic of a beautoful citi. LOve the windows in the shop. Such a good idea
I want to go to your dentist. I'll have to tell my dentist he needs to move to a cool location.
I love your creation, and I adore that frame.
I remember Newberry St. and the Plaza. I had such a great time there.
Love your rendition of the balloon and the frame is fabulous!!
Have a good week, Karen!

Karen, what a delightful place to window shop! (I kind of have a feeling you could turn any day into a fun one -even with a trip to the dentist). You've been doing beautiful hot air balloon designs FOREVER! I don't think you copied them. I think somebody copied you and then charged hundreds of $ for it! laurie
Oh Karen, this street along with other wonderful streets holds so many fond memories for Ruben and me. Pierre Deux is a beautiful shop; I wonder if the Bibliothèque Française is still on Commonwealth Ave. We would walk from the Back Bay through the Commons to the North End and then wolf down the best Italian supper. Ah...Boston, my home away from home. Blessings, Anita
hi karen,
oh, i miss newbury street. i used to take the T to boston all the time for shopping and the best haircut and blowdry ever. sigh. i was just thinking it's about time i did that with the boys (minus the haircut)!

You're right....it looks like a wonderful street! I would love to go to Pierre Deux - I get their catalog and drool every time it comes. I see there is a Betsey Johnson store - Ashley loves her stores! Wow, we could have so much fun! Thanks for sharing and also about the fairy store...someday I will have to visit.
I love your hot air balloon design. The frame is so ornate - did you just have it laying around? It is beautiful.
Ooooh I would LOVE to sit around painting the store fronts on Newberry Street... that would be GRAND!!!
Cool mosaic of the shops in Boston. I think I would love the Country French shop.
