Old Salem, North Carolina

Yesterday, we went to Old Salem, North Carolina with my sister Lynne and her husband Steve.
The Winkler Bakery was founded in 1799 and is still making bread, cakes, cookies and all kinds of delicious goodies in their old brick oven.  I couldn't wait to show my sister, Lynne who is an amazing baker.  Here is a lovely video that shows what this lovely area looks like.

We took a tour of some of the old buildings.

We enjoyed our stroll along the cobblestone walkways,

and going in and out of historical buildings.  There is still lots more to explore and to learn about in this the beautiful area of Old Salem.  I can't wait until Spring, when I can tour the gardens.

I guess the best part of being in North Carolina is being able to spend time with my sister, Lynne and her husband Steve…Oh, and their little dog Scout.

I am joining Mary, from Little Red House for Mosaic Monday today.  You should see the mosaic inspiration and Mary's photos are especially gorgeous today.

I was there years ago for a Jr. League conference and enjoyed it. A friend's mother, now deceased, took us all to lunch at a wonderful place.

Glad you have family near.

And what a cute little dog!

Stay warm. It is going to dip tonight here, but we have had mild weather so far. It's been grand, minus a few days of rain. But we needed it. So that's okay.

Before I forget, I ordered another one of your pillows for a friend of mine. I can't wait till she gets it.

xo,

Sheila

I see that you're all wearing jackets to stay warm. That looks like a very nifty place to visit. Did you get something that was freshly baked?

Enjoyed seeing your pictures (here from MM) and can't believe I've never been there even though we live within driving distance for a days' outing. Someday soon we must visit!

Hi Karen,

I so enjoyed your lovely pictures and wonderfully informative commentary on Salem, quite enchanting in itself! The video is also very well done, and I like the choice of music.

Thanks so much for sharing.

Hi Karen, What a wonderful post sharing the new/old surrounding of your hew home. I love the quaintness of old Salem. You are going to really enjoy living here.
So nice to be near your sister too. What a sweet pic with her little pooch.
Stay warm. We are freezing here too and woke to 16 degrees which is unreal for us.
