Weekend in Vermont

Weekend in Vermont

Joy, originally uploaded by bluebirdsandteapots.

I went to visit my mom in Vermont this weekend. It was great to see my sister, Susan and to visit a few fun places. It never seems long enough...I wish I could stay a few weeks instead of just a few days. When I go to Burlington Vermont I always feel like I am going home. I have never lived there, but visits to my sister and my mom have made me fall in love with the lovely place.

Vermont

I secretly wished my daughter, Sarah had attended University of Vermont. What a beautiful campus, and they always seem to be improving the campus with every visit.

My sister Susan suggested that we go to the Lake Champlain Chocolate factory for a cup of hot chocolate. Here is our mom enjoying a cup of delicious hot chocolate in front of the factory window. I don't think I can ever look at a backdrop like that and not remember Lucille Ball stuffing chocolate in her mouth as the conveyor belt moved faster and faster.

Walking along Church Street and out and about Burlington, I found this so Vermont store downtown and photographed a bit of the ambiance.

It was very cold and snow flakes were falling on and off, it was just a preview of winter in Vermont. Until December when I will return to capture some more Vermont joy....so the song I chose for this post is December in Vermont.

Karen - Thanks so much for visiting our factory while you were in town. What beautiful pictures you took. Appreciate you posting them. Are you a photographer by trade? I hope you enjoyed your visit and your hot chocolate and stop by to see us again next time you're home. And we always mention Lucy and Ethel in the chocolate factory. It's our favorite! Have a wonderful holiday season and thanks again for mentioning Lake Champlain Chocolates so favorably in your blog. Happy Holidays!

Oh, I love Vermont! My dad always dreamed of living there, but my mom would never go for it. I've never been there in the dead of winter - not sure if I could take that much cold, snow and darkness...

Great photos!

What a beautiful place! I haven't been to Vermont in YEARS! I think after looking at your gorgeous photos that I need to go back! I am going to tell Clare from Vintage-Home blog (she's in the UK) about this post. She's been to VT before and loves it! =)

Hi Karen

Thank you so much for the lovely photos - you have reminded me so much of the wonderful holiday we spent in Vermont a few years ago. We went in late May and the weather was beautiful. We stayed in Benninton and stopped off at Burlington on one of our trips. We hope to return again soon as we fell in love with Vermont and New England in general. Thanks again!

oh how I would love to be there Karen. lovely to see such beautiful pics. I have lived in England now for about 17 years and I have only ever seen one white Christmas here and that only lasted for about 2 hours! I do hope for snow this year, it reminds me so much of home.

Thank you, but it's hard not to take a great picture with this beauty all around you. Another favorite is Stowe, Vermont home of the Von Trapp Family Lodge. I will return closer to Christmas to visit my mother. I have my sister, Susan to thank for introducing me to Vermont...she moved there in the early 80's. Can't wait for December.

What a blessing it is for me to live here in Central Vermont, though tomorrow morning when I take my dear mother-in-law to Burlington for a little Christmas shopping, we may wish we lived in a more temperate climate. Lake Champlain chocolate may be the cure! Thank you for sharing the beautiful photos.

Kathy, you are blessed...Vermont is such a piece of heaven. It was very cold here too, but near Lake Champlain it even seems colder. My mom said that it is snowing. Is there anything more glorious than seeing the mountains covered in snow? Hope you have a lovely time.

Karen,
I just happened upon your blog in a very serendipitous way. Isn't that the way we usually find great blogs? I was led straight to the Burlington post. I did a post on Burlington back in mid- November. I was born and raised there and went to UVM, but moved to Mass 22 years ago. My 90 year old parents are still in So. Burlington so I go to visit fairly often. Love the pictures of Bennington North, one of my favorite stores. All your photos are stunning.
