The sun was shining, the cool breeze and a blue sky seemed to paint the promise for a glorious day. I was in the kitchen making lunches for my daughter Ashley and her friends. They were off to go fishing on the nearby lake. Canoe on top of my daughter's friends car and a cooler of good things to eat and drink they were off down the driveway.
I went into the house, packed a lunch, grabbed my camera and headed off on an adventure. I decided to head for Newport, Rhode Island. I knew that I would be back in time for dinner if I hurried.
Newport, Rhode Island is simply gorgeous in the summer. I get such a thrill when I drive over the bridge to Newport. When I got there it was early afternoon, and the lighting was spectacular. I had packed a lunch and my paint box in case I was inspired to paint. I painted a bit and then headed for the tip of Newport to take some photographs.
In the distance I could see colorful sails and they were coming closer.
I waited patiently for them to come a bit closer,
while I just enjoyed this amazing day.
One by one, they passed by like a colorful parade.
It was a feast of sailboats.
I didn't know where to point my camera first...
It was such a magical day, I wished it could last forever.
Then as I watched the boats head for home, I knew that I better pack up my things and start for home myself.
Mr. Seagull said goodbye.
On the drive heading back along the shore,
I stopped by the side of the road to capture this sunset. The icing on the cake!!
Every time I get homesick for the tip of Long Island in New York, I remind myself what a quick drive it is to see the many beautiful places here in New England. So many places to see and enjoy.
The song for this post is Sailing.

What a lovely day you must have had in Newport, Karen! Beautiful photos!
When our daughter was going to art school in RI, my husband and I would drive up and we'd visit Newport. We took a boat ride too! What a fabulous place.
