A Painted Journal for Pink Saturday
Saturday, August 30, 2008
Today is Pink Saturday, and Bev from How Sweet The Sound is hosting this wonderful event. There are many pink posts to explore, so won't you join Bev in celebrating another Pink Saturday?
The large painting that I started to paint with tea stained roses is complete and off to the framer. Hopefully, it will be ready to show you on next Pink Saturday.
I have always loved diaries, journals and notebooks. I have many journals that I have illustrated and written in over the years. These journals record everything from my first love, to favorite quotations and special chapters.
I especially love Chinese calligraphy jounrals.
Recently I was browsing in the gift shop of a nearby museum and I came across this interesting journal. I love how it came in it's own book case.
When I took the book out of it's case, I was so pleased with the workmanship of the book cover. The front and back cover are made out of an enamel like material. The front cover is decorated with Chinese characters.
So, I thought I would hand-paint the pages of this book and put it in my little shop. These journals make such nice gifts, with original watercolors, you can add your own words, or give it to that special someone for them to write their own.
So, I started with painting bows, which leads to a basket of pink roses.
I love garden gates that lead to secret gardens, so I thought this would be a nice page.
A heart of roses and vines...
Pages framed in pink roses and leaves
An angel dressed in pink of course
A wreath of pink roses, a basket of flowers, a cupcake with pink icing and a cherry on top and a terracotta pot with dried roses..
These kinds of journals look wonderful if you just open up one page or two at a time...
Or if you want to open up the entire book you can stand it up like a fan.
So, here is A PINK SATURDAY JOURNAL all finished in my little shop wrapped in a bow waiting to give as a gift. The journal measures just 5" x 3 1/2 " and 1 " deep. 14 hand-painted pages, and 24 pages that you can write on. You can also write or decorate the back of the pages.
I wonder what secrets someone will write on these pages, perhaps a diary of a first love, special quotes, words of encouragement, or to use as a day calendar? Well, please stop by all the Pink Saturday places today, just stop by Bev's place and you will find the links to many journals of pink inspiration.
The song for this post is Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes.
P.S. I popped on my Etsy store this morning to change a photo, and the little journal was gone. Someone bought it already. How lovely. I think that I am going to paint more of these for the shop.
Happy Pink Saturday!
Love your PINK post, Karen!

Your's is such a peaceful spot to visit! I so enjoyed the journal and the beautiful little paintings you added.
I wish I would have taken the time to keep journals. I was always sporadic with those kind of things. I especially wish I would have recorded the wonderful time of my kids childhood. We have tons of photos, however!
Have a great P. Sat. Dana
Again, another beautiful post by you. The paintings you did are gorgeous. You never fail to amaze me!
Happy Pink Saturday!

What a great idea to make a purchased diary so personal and beautiful!
What beautiful paintings! Thank you so much for sharing! Happy Pink Saturday!
I love journals - reading them and writing them. The more beautiful the book, the more enticing to write in it. I also like writing down great quotations. Still think the most poignant journal ever was that of Anne Frank.
It is always good to visit! Love Eleanor
Karen, of course someone wanted that beautiful journal. I am sure it will be filled with words of beauty and kindness.
You freely give us those things here. I appreciate all you do for us.
Happy Pink Saturday.
I've never thought of handling a journal like that; why, I would never write on those hand painted pages!
I love the way it looks all open on the mantel.

I'll email you later and of course I'll blog about it, but for now I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love it and my husband loves it too, as the first thing he said was: let's frame this one!
Thanks a million!
Hello Karen, I am so behind on everything lately. I have been catching up on your wonderful posts and enjoying all the eye candy. I love the four photos of your journals...congratulations on the fast sale :)
I am like you a Tasha Tudor fan...I met her once 30 years ago and gave her a soft sculpture Gnome that I made...a couple of years later I bought her advent calendar and on the calendar is a Gnome...I choose to think that she was inspired by me...is that to conceited do you think?
What a beautiful post Karen! Everything looks so beautiful!
Love your journals. Just beautiful. Hope your summer has been nice. Happy Pink Saturday a little late.
