PINK SATURDAY
Friday, July 31, 2009
Today is Pink Saturday and Bev from How Sweet The Sound is hosting this very Pink Day filled with beautiful pink posts to see.
nce upon a time when we lived in Hong Kong, there was a beautiful bazaar filled with lovely creations. A friend created the most gorgeous little pots of dried roses. I loved them so much that a bought a bunch of them and have enjoyed them for many years.
During that time I created a composition using her lovely pots of dried roses. I painted so many of these paintings and gave them to friends who eventually moved back to their homeland. I think that is why roses always remind me of friends.
These paintings of roses live in many places, from Holland, to India.
Whenever I see this little pot of flowers, I am reminded of how she has bloomed all over the world. So, when I read about the PINK ARTISTS block party, I knew exactly which painting to paint.
The PINK BLOCK PARTY HAS OFFICIALLY BEGUN. Monica of Girl Gone Thread Wild, asked artists to also donate a piece of art created by the artist for the 2009 PINK ART BLOCK PARTY.
I wanted to donate a painting of one of my favorite things. I have painted an original watercolor painting of my composition of a pot of Dried Roses.
I used Arches Watercolor paper 140 lb. I used Winsor & Newton watercolor paint. The painting image measures 8 x 10 inches with a white border. I am including a white mat board measuring 11 x 14 inches.
The painting is presented in a white mat for framing.
I look forward to seeing all the PINK ART that will be created for the 2009 PINK ART BLOCK PARTY. You can click here to see the gallery of prizes or you can view a slide show on Monica's blog. The GRAND PRIZE is a beautiful quilt created by the PINK ARTISTS.
This quilt was created by individual blocks of stunning designs created by the PINK ARTISTS. What a grand prize! You can click on the photograph of the quilt to enlarge it for a better view.
My Quilt girl approves. I can't sew, but I love to illustrate and design quilt patterns. I am designing some Quilt Girl greeting cards, which I will have printed for my little shop. If I could sew a quilt it would be made up of many dried roses, so that I could remember each friend that I knew and loved during the years I lived in Hong Kong and Canada. I have always thought that quilters piece the memories that can sew our hearts together. Certainly these PINK ARTISTS have stitched together a vivid expression of their hearts for a worthy cause.
The song for this post is Good Friends.

Great post, Karen, and what fantastic designs. I love the way you let us into the process of your work, too, telling us how and why you used a certain idea, and how you made the painting.
Have a great weekend, and a wonderful PInk Saturday.
Hi Karen! Your pot of pink roses is adorable. That was a wonderful post. I lived in Portugal for six months and brought home a pile of quilt squares made by friends I'll always remember. Your rose painting is such a wonderful way to remember your time abroad and all the friends you made along the way. Happy Pink Saturday!
