The Magician of Bookbinding

My creation

Shhhhh, The Magician of Bookbinding was coming to town...

tim holtz 5Slowly...

tim holtz 4

tim holtz 5I viewed the object at hand...

tim holz 1

tim holtz 5Should I learn this craft...

tim holtz 3

tim holtz 5Might it be too difficult...

the-magic-of-tim-holtz-2

tim holtz 5Would the magic of it all be too challenging?

the-magic-of-tim-holtz

tim holtz 5When I saw this class that the amazing and magical Tim Holtz had created, I have to tell you I really thought it much too crafty for me.

tim holtz 19

tim holtz 5I wanted to take a class with Tim Holtz, he is an amazing designer for Ranger Products. He has literally done for the crafting industry what Sarah Jessica Parker did for the fashion industry and Jimmy Choo shoes.

tim holtz 5My friends Joyce and Amisha were in the class.

tim holtz 9

tim holtz 5We sewed our books, and learned all about knots, kettle stitching and all things "book"...

tim holtz 8

tim holtz 5We crafted...

tim holtz 14

tim holtz 5We were in bookbinding heaven! Speaking "Book" and sewing little pages for our totally magical creations.

tim holtz 16

tim holtz 5We learned how to emboss metal, and alcohol ink to our heart's content.

tim holtz 12

tim holtz 5Our wonderful Creativity Boot Camp instructor, Miss Karen was there too. Here is a snapshot of Joyce and Karen.

Ink About It is pure heaven, besides being a mecca of art supplies from all ends of the earth, they always manage to surprise you with interesting classes and wonderful guest instructors.

tim holtz 22

tim holtz 6Well, we topped off our day with Tim signing our own books and the Studio Magazine which features his studio.

tim holtz 23

This was the best class, and Tim is a wonderful and funny guy who makes the magic of bookbinding seem less of a mystery and more of an inspirational joy. And finallly, the big reveal, my magical book, which I think looks like it just fell off Harry Potter's book shelf, thus the music. Ta dah...

tim holtz 5The song for this post is the soundtrack from the magical Harry Potter. If you want to continue the magic, with Tim, you can view a video of Willy Wonka Ranger University HERE.

I'm so jealous!!! We never get any cool 'How To' classes around here, and certainly never anyone of the caliper of Tim Holtz!

OH Karen! This art is so up my alley, I can't speak!!! First of all, you are so fortunate that you don't have to work an outside job and that you can spend all your time creating!(I am assuming by the quality of your work and your productivity). Secondly, this is a specialized art and how lucky that you fell upon this and thirdly, IT IS MAGICAL! I LOVE BINDING AND MAKING BOOKS! I have been in love with making books since I was old enough to write and draw! Thank you for this magical moment. Anita

Dearest Karen! Oh, how did you hurt your hand? That is not good for an artist such as yourself! Do heal quickly dear one! Yes, I am going to miss the antics of Balzac, but he is my guy and I plan on working on his story to......shhhh....I feel funny saying this but, I want to work on his story to publish it. Why not give it a whirl; the most I will lose is nothing!!! Thanks for all your sweet support and visits! Bisous, Anita
