It Might Be You
Monday, May 17, 2010
The year was 1982. I was working in Manhattan, commuting over an hour into the city, and putting in very long days. I worked most days from 9 in the morning until ten o'clock PM and then took a car back to Verona, New Jersey.
My job was insane, I was working as a computer analyst in the MIS department of one of the top Investment Banking firms. People were so crazy there...they lived to work!
My divorce had been final in 1978, and I was dating again, but I had all of these rules. The biggest rule I had was "under no circumstance would "Mr. Right" be younger than me." My Ex had been a womanizer, and well, I thought perhaps if I married someone older it would be safer.
I saw the movie Tootsie in a theater in the city with my best friend Lisa. As I watched that wonderful scene when the characters fall in love, sigh, I thought I never would. Especially if I continued to work like a maniac. The music that played during that scene is playing now.
In 1983 I moved to Princeton, New Jersey, quit my Manhattan rat race job, and took a local job. One where I could be five minutes away from work. Where people had lives beyond the doors of their job.
I moved next-door to this very young guy. Ten years younger to be exact, and well, we ended up getting married. So much for rules! He was the exact age my first husband had been when I walked down the aisle in 1972.
I love that we are serenaded by music and that songs are sewn into the fabric of our lives.
We can hear just a few notes and be brought back into some lovely chapter.
Reflection is my joy, and I am playing this song for you today.
Hoping that it might trigger a lovely memory for you too.
This song reminds me that when you think there is no hope, there always is...Ned and I were married in New Hope, Pennsylvania in 1987.
This song...It Might Be You!
What a lovely story! I'm glad you found happiness once more.
Blessings,
Anita
Hi Karen,
What a lovely post today, and I enjoyed hearing about your move away from the rat race and finding your Husband.
That is neat how things work out.
Have a happy week
Hugs
Carolyn
Love your blog too! Now I'm following.
I did the same as you, gave up the day job (commuting by tube in London is not an experience to be envied, lol) and am so much happier working from home!
Oh Karen, that was a wonderful window into your life!!! THANK YOU! I pray that each and every day is filled with loving memories, new beginnings and hope and love for the future. God bless you, you beautiful human being. ANita
And if anyone deserves happiness, Karen, it is YOU!
I loved your story. Loved every word. You gave people hope here today by sharing, but you do that a lot, you know. Share. And give hope. That's why I think you are one of favorite bloggers. You have a true artist's soul.
Love you much...
XO,
Sheila :-)

what a great story Karen...how sweet that you found your true love right next door...i love it!!!
A. LOVE your story - thanks for sharing.
B. My first job out of college was very near Princeton (in Clinton at the Hunterdon Art Center).
C. I grew up in New Hope! However, I was long gone by '87, so I didn't see your bridal procession. :(
D. Have you been stalking me for years? LOL LOL
Karen, your story is so sweet. My sister married a younger man and couldn't be happier. Age makes little, if any, difference to people who love. Thanks for sharing your love story! (What a crazy way to live as you were back then in the 80s. You must be thrilled to be living the life you now lead.)
what a heartwarming story. I so enjoyed reading your post and so glad you found happiness second time around hugs Sara
