old ones,
new ones,
old love letters,
saved letters from friends.
Letter writing is a lost art, yet when you peek into etsy you might think differently.I featured Creative Carmelina's new envelopes which she created from Victoria Magazines in a treasury on etsy I called THE ART OF LETTER WRITING. If you are not familiar with Carmelina's lovely blog, you must visit her, she is so talented. I especially love her journals.
I love old postage too,
letter writing things always inspire me, like sealing wax. art stamps and beautiful fountain pens. When I have a new pen, I just want to sit down and compose a letter.
I use old postage when I am shipping parcels or in a beeswax collage.
I used old letters to wrap this beeswax collage.
Of course there is always a stamp or two included.

I used that fabric to make this wall canvas. Some of my customers have used this fabric to create throw pillows and in smaller scale they make sachets.
Truly I think that the art of letter writing is returning.
Even if the letter is the art itself.

It is a mystery to me why letter writing is dying. We all love a handwritten letter. I guess the convenience of instant communication is too much competition for beautiful letters that take days to arrive. I have all the love letters that Earl sent me while we were dating. Boxes of them since we were apart for a year and he wrote nearly every day! I fear my daughters won't have those treasures from their own sweethearts. Beautiful post Karen!
Wonderful post, Karen. I love letter writing and am so sad that *it* doesn't happen anymore. It's so much fun to open up an envelope and read the latest news from a friend. You just don't get the same feeling in an email! Love the fabric.

What a beautiful post. I love old letters, and I love receiving letters in the mail.
I will say, I am very out of practice. I sat down this weekend and filled out invitations to a holiday party we are having last month and my hand got cramped after just a few!

Karen, your blog is a feast for the eyes, senses, soul. I am so glad we 'met' and I am so inspired by your work. I am afraid that your blog will keep me glued to my computer for many hours (yes!) to come. Wow, what a visual treat. I've spied a sample of your work, oh, I must go off and explore. Fantastic! I too collect old letters, writing, stamps, and use them in collages, and on handmade projects. My son in law stated that handwriting is 'out' in this day of computers, texting, etc. I think it is a lost art, and I loved learning cursive when I was in 3rd grade. A handwritten note is so much more special than any e-mail message. Thanks so much for this interesting post, your photos are beautiful, I see an artist's eye in them. Oh, BTW, when I wanted to get an 'important' person's attention--when I wanted my correspondence to stand out from all others, I wrote a letter--no e-mail... it worked! He even mentioned that since one rarely recieves personal letters, mine was very noticeable.

I have always loved to write letters and all the little embellishments that went with it!
There is something so special about this art; I started writing letters when I was just a small child. I have written to radio stations lodging complaints (yes, as I child I did and it got read on the radio!) and I have written to Olympic athletes and to the President of the United States!!! I love to write, but now with blogging, it is so much easier. Your images are as wonderful dearest as your sentiments. Love to you, Anita
When I think of all the old letters I have stored in metal boxes I get a warm feeling. I'm sad, though, to think that in this age of instant communication we rarely communicate in a way that lasts.
This past summer I started to exchange letters with another blogger - we've never met and perhaps never will, but we both enjoy receiving a beautifully addressed envelope and a handwritten letter.
I keep old letters from my late husband since the time we were in courtship stage up to our marriage in my memoirs box. I never realize they can be kept in an artistic manner like what I see here. Awesome!

I still have the letters Gary wrote to me, my Mom has the letters my Dad wrote her.
I have postcards that my Grandma received and that she had sent to my Grandpa. The postcards arrived with only a one name and town..everyone know each other..beautiful times..

Karen I saved every letter and card my husband and children have ever sent me. I love taking down the rather large box and looking through my letter treasures from time to time. Reading them brings back moments in time so clearly. I hope that letters will never be a "thing if the past" for the future will not know the pleasures they are missing if that ever happens.I have also save commemorative stamps since childhood and have many tins full of them. I enjoy looking at them and sorting through them.
Your art work is so precious! This was such a lovely post and I know I will be back many times to look at it again..almost like re-reading a beautiful letter!
