Cake Decorating Inspiration and farm fresh eggs

Well, it all started when I found this lovely class at Michaels Crafts.  My friend Joyce came along and my daughter's best friend's mom is taking the class too.

Cake decorating is so much fun.  As I was mixing the cake batter, I had to stop to photograph these gorgeous eggs.  I stopped into Ink About It last week and Karen had brought some fresh eggs into the shop from her own chickens.  I thought they would make my cake delicious.

I learned two things tonight.  A little bit of Anise really cuts the sweetness of the cake icing.  The second thing I learned is that the consistency of the icing makes all the difference in the world.  I am gong to have to work on that.

This cake decorating is going to take lots of practice.  Here's my fish cake.  Next week it's cupcake decorating!   I need to practice with the icing pressure.

The song for this post is a favorite Cole Porter of mine.   Easy To Love, 1936.  Isn't it remarkable to think that a song created 76 years ago can still be so enjoyable?

Please take home a recipe card.

Sounds fun. I'm not a cake decorator, but think it would be fun to take a class.

Good morning beautiful!

Talk about cake icing. My mum had the touch when it came to this; her icings were always creamy and rich. My icings come out HARD and gritty due to the sugar. What have I done wrong??? I must look at your recipe and see if there is something there I am missing AND ANISE...that is a great idea!! Anita

Oh I adore that song! I sang along at full tilt right to the end. Good thing only the dog and cat were here to hear me.

Cake decorating? What next, Karen? Skydiving? ☺ No, that's not an unusual pairing. I think of cake decorating as an extremely challenging thing. At least it doesn't risk life and limb unless your sanity counts. Have great fun! So far, I'd say that you're an expert.

I've always wished to be able to decorate a cake like that - time to take a class, I guess, as it won't happen naturally!

Anise, yum. Especially love it as liqueur. Love your friendly Mr. Bubbles (fish), and, of course the music is divine.
Enjoy your class.
Much love,
Marcia
