Apple has been kind enough to offer the replacement of my CD rom disc drive. It seems that when I tried to put my computer back together again after the main hard drive recall, my disc drive wouldn't let me reload my software.
So, I will be bringing my 27" Mac back to the shop tomorrow. Luckily Apple will come to my car with a dolly to bring it inside to the shop.
So, it's back to the drawing board. The main software I need is Photoshop Elements so that I can do the edits I usually can do, while I learn how to use Photoshop on Adobe Creative Cloud.
Sometimes I miss having my old typewriter and using snail mail, sigh. I feel like I have been taken over by this new social media, technical virtual world. I liked the olden days when the only techies I knew were the guys that walked into your classroom to run the video equipment.
I really hate waiting on the telephone, listening to tinny music played in my ear, only to eventually talk to someone who speaks a completely different language...technical jargon. Only to be followed by a visit to the Apple store to be intimidated by children wearing matching shirts and necklaces with iPhones tangling as charms escorting me to the genius bar. You would think that the inventors of iTunes would have better quality music to listen to when you need to wait for such a long time to talk to an Apple store representative.
You know we need a new layman's terms dictionary for all this new lingo, don't you think?
Apple Cloud:
A Virtual heaven where you can store and share files.
Adobe Creative Cloud:
A place in virtual heaven where software is shared, so that you don't have to spend a gazillion dollars buying individual software. You get to pick and choose from the latest softwares and receive updates periodically, instead of being upset that you just purchased software that is already out of date tomorrow.
Apple Genius Bar
A place called the Genius Bar where young people wearing matching shirts from Techieland try to fix your problem. Unless they have not be advised about new equipment. i.e. The new external superdrive is not supported by your iMac after you spend $80.00 buying the drive. Only compatible with some Apple equipment.
Time Machine
The system called Time Machine is supposed to save backup for your computer. Only works if your computer does not die, replaced with a new hard drive. Only saves alias to your application software, without which you can't recall your files that you backed up anyway.
CD Rom Drive
The thingy that is on the side of you computer which holds cd's and dvd's
On the Apple Mac, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Makes you think why
the new iMac's new design doesn't have a CD Rom Drive.
Hard Drive
The main drive that sits inside your computer that rules your computer world.
Suggestion...always keep hard copies of your application software, and back up everything, just in case the Hard Drive dies, is recalled or goes "Bazinga"
Oh dear, sounds terrifying to me. If anything happened to my Mac I would be down at the Apple Store for assistance.
Oh why doesn't everything work according to plan? I find that the older I get, the more invisible I am just as I was once warned. No wonder so many older women take on that imperious tone. Hope that all gets resolved and how nice if someone would listen to your excellent suggestions.
Oh my dear, I am with you. While I love being connected to the world, there is a part of me that will always feel many steps backward in the presence of the new generation. I guess I know now how my dear old dad felt while I was growing up with my latest technology world of Walkmans, the first PCs and other technology. I can't know it all, but what I love the most is the fact that I can communicate with others around the world and begin to expand my creativity.

Ugh, sorry you're having computer problems. I always feel like I am at their mercy, they could sell me the moon because what do I know about what I need?
The worst thing is that no matter that I am a bit more tech savvy than most p[eople my age, the technology is just moving too fast. I don't know all the latest bells and whistles and part of me doesn't want to. You have to keep up though if you don't want to be left behind!
I too, love being connected.....but when I have a problem, I WANT/NEED to speak with a real person and talking on the phone with someone from India doesn't work for me.
