Once upon a time, inspiration

I took an adventure ride in the country with my friend Joyce.  Wish I could say this was my car, but I couldn't resist taking her photo.  It was parked outside one of our favorite shops,  Bowerbirds and Friends.  Peterborough is the loveliest little town.  Since we were in southern New Hampshire, we set out to find Pickity Place.

Amanda Seyfried serenades this post.

"This enchanting cottage was chosen by Elizabeth Orton Jones as the model for her illustrations in Little Red Riding Hood (Little Golden Books, 1948)", the year I as born.

The place is filled with everything charming, there are even cats lounging about to make you feel at home.

Once you are inside the cottage, you spot a four poster bed with the big bad wolf himself, tucked underneath the covers, wearing grandma's clothing

Just in case, you forgot that you were in Little Red Riding Hood's cottage, you see her cape hanging on the door to the bedroom.  The bedroom is near the entrance to the restaurant.

I found an animated story adapted from the original Golden Book for you.  So pour yourself a glass of milk and grab some cookies.

This place is so enchanting, it's no wonder Elizabeth Orton Jones found inspiration for her illustrations.
"Since 1786, our quaint little red cottage has grace the hills of southern New Hampshire."

They have quite a wonderful menu, but you have to make reservations ahead of time.  When we arrived for a look around, they were hosting a bridal shower.  The property is filled with quaint little corners,

 a lovely garden.

There are beautiful ivy covered buildings, sheep and two adorable shops on the property.

We saw so many people just sitting and enjoying the grounds.

There are two shops on the property and you can keep up with what is going on if you stop by their facebook page.

One of my favorite things I had to photograph, was this sign next to a beautiful hanging red geranium plant.  It says:

ENJOY YOUR PICKITY DAY.

Hope your day is filled with enchanting things reminding you of the sweet, pickity things in life.

This is the kind of outing and day that you just want to stroll through, quietly, taking mental note. All I would want to hear on a tour like this is the gentle bleating of the animals, the wind, my ideas speaking to me. How lovely my friend. Thank you for bringing New England's glory to us. Anita

How darling! I didn't know that the book had a true beginning for inspiration!

This is the first time I am learning of such a home and the story of this illustrator's use of it. Totally charming! I would love to head off on an adventure to find it. Thank you for doing that very thing!

The red car is gorgeous. I do not know how are the illustrations of Le Petit Chaperon Rouge by E. Orton Jones. I suppose they are as cute as the others she did.

Pickety Place is one of my favorite places ... I go every spring to buy my hard to find herbs from their greenhouse and take my friend for lunch every summer when it's her birthday ... it's pretty magical isn't it?

So happy that Vee sent me to your blog!
