Great Aunt Adelaide's Attic & Pink Saturday

DSC03778

DSC03780Once in a garden my Great Aunt Adelaide played with my Grandmother in their country home visiting Great Aunt Mart.

Grandma through the years

DSC03780I fell in love with this photo a long long time ago. I originally designed this Great Aunt Adelaide Thank You Card to hold collections of ephemera.

DSC03780Then one night I had a dream about her and thought about designing a card with Great Aunt Adelaide on the front of the card. I had this card printed professionally on dreamy white watercolor paper.

DSC03780Then I added just a touch of glitter to remind one of those old fashioned Vintage cards.

DSC03780Then I added a pocket inside, which I covered with Great Aunt Adelaide’s photo.

DSC03780Inside the pocket are old letters, postcards, Vintage ribbon binding, old tags, stamps and a bit of Antique prints.

Inside the card opposite the pocket is a blank card to write a note. I am sure anyone who loves ephemera will enjoy this gift.

DSC03780The matching envelope is lined with a print of old sheet music "Dear Old Days."

DSC03780When I was finished creating this labor of love, I decided to wrap it like an old fashioned parcel.

DSC03780I gave the first package to my mother, she loved it. As she felt the package tied in twine, she said that it brought back floods of memories of when she was little. My mom and Great Aunt Adelaide used to listen to the radio show "Let's Pretend." I was able to give her the CD, and the look on her face when she listened to it was priceless.

DSC03780My mom said that Great Aunt Adelaide is smiling in heaven.

DSC03775

DSC03780Angel inspired, I am creating numerous packets from stashes of old letters, Antique and Vintage postcards, Vintage shoelaces, bits of ephemera and stamps. The prices will vary depending on the ephemera inside. I have many resources here in historical New England to find the most incredible finds.

DSC03772

DSC03780 I have just added the first GREAT AUNT ADELAIDE'S ATTIC CARD packet on my little etsy shop. I will continue to add these packets to my etsy shop. I have a category now on my etsy shop called Aunt Adelaide’s Attic.

The Keeper of The Memories

Vintage Joy

alking through one of those glorious little shops that sell Vintage and Antique treasures, I am transported back in time. I pass by familiar objects that I remember seeing at my Grandmother's home growing up.

DSC05854

100_2083Sweet memories dance through my mind as I continue to journey passed old photos, books and vintage things. Treasures that I have never seen before, but I cherish them all the same.

Vintage Treasures

100_2083Wondering who once owned them, and what stories they might tell. Somewhere in time the owners cherished them too.

DSC05855

100_2083I love collecting timeless works of art that stand the test of time. I wonder, was it the love that was poured into these objects that gave them life even now?

Vintage Joy

100_2083A lovely lady who might have practiced her penmanship in hopes of securing a job. A child playing with dominos and wishing upon nursery rhyme dreams.

DSC05852

100_2083Were these time pieces marking the chapters of their lives as they readied themselves to go to school for the first time, walk down the aisle, have their first child, or wait silently in their August years?

Great Aunt Adelaide's attic

100_2083As I look at each little treasure, and hold it’s wonder in my hand, I am filled with such lovely inspiration.

DSC05844

100_2083To me walking through one of these glorious little shops and taking home a small piece of someone’s history touches my heart.

DSC05854

100_2083It’s a funny thing, I seem to cherish these objects even more than my own. Yet someday treasures of mine will remind some young woman of how dearly I loved each one.

DSC05855

100_2083Sometimes I thought that perhaps I was frequenting these kinds of stores, reaching back in time to touch a sweeter more gentle time.

DSC05843

My Grandmother 1918The joy I feel when I stroll through one of these special places always connects me to a time that I ran home when the street lights came on, and rushed to sit at the supper table with so many of my loved ones, who have now gone home to be with the Lord.

My creation

100_2083The people who own and love these shops are the “keepers of the memories.” In charge of minding each beautiful object until it finds it’s way back home to someone’s heart. I am thankful that there are these people, these keepers of the memories who feed my soul every now and again.
