When it had been such a long, long time?
Letters must have been such a wonderful surprise.
Waiting without a cell phone, text message or e-mail.
Only the mailman could answer your question.
How is my love?
Today it is so easy to communicate long distances,
yet I still get joy when I find a letter in my mailbox.
Since it is Pink Saturday

Love this post! When I was a teenager, I went to the post office every day to see if I had a letter or two! You're right, it was so amazing and wonderful to receive these from afar!
How sweet Karen! I love good old snail mail. Somehow I have lost touch with so many friends that have moved away and I'm not entirely faultless. Email can never make up for long letters and photos. But sometimes I thought~I will never see this person again. That was a crazy way of thinking...I miss those people. So now I don't believe in email and I send cards to friends and family that may only live 5 miles away. Because everyone loves to see something like that in their mailbox. :-)

I think we should do both! Once in a while I have to send a handwritten letter to that special friend that just needs some extra attention. I love to write and receive letters, it is weird that in this age of constant communication there will be saved very little of what we told each other every day for future generations.
The big advantage of new communication tools is that the world has become so much smaller.
Who would have thought of me, just a simple woman, writing to a Karen Harvey Cox, someone who I never met, wishing her a very nice and sunny weekend, and giving her my best regards to her mother too, ten years ago?
One afternoon almost 30 years ago (eekkk!!) I came home from work and found a letter sitting on the kitchen counter addressed to me from a boy I had met a few days before. I can still remember the joy and thrill of it. Today the letter sits atop a stack of letters tied in red ribbon on my bedside table. The boy is now my dear husband. you have been busy making beautiful things, I see! My at college son does not understand how we'd line up each day at 4 pm to take a gander into the small mailbox allotted from the college just to see if we had a word from friend or family--it is so easy for them now but I do not think the thrill is the same, right??
I cannot even recall the last time I actually received a letter. Isn't that sad? I don't know about giving up email. But I could go without a cell phone. And I don't even want to know how to text message.

Great post Karen. It has been so long since I received a handwritten letter. I have some old letters that my mother wrote about 20 years ago and it always makes me smile to see them. She passed away 18 years ago so they are very sepcial letters

I just found your blog today, so glad I did. Wonderful post! Oh, to go back to a simpler time when letter writing was so special & important. It seems the younger generation doesn't write in cursive very often, let alone write letters. I guess you could say I'm just old school . . .

Hi Karen, I love to receive a letter and I love to write them. Letters have become a lost art since the internet, but I still love it. Yes I do remember how exciting it was to open the mailbox and see a letter.
