The Keeper of The Memories

Vintage Joy

alking through one of those glorious little shops that sell Vintage and Antique treasures, I am transported back in time. I pass by familiar objects that I remember seeing at my Grandmother's home growing up.

100_2083Sweet memories dance through my mind as I continue to journey passed old photos, books and vintage things. Treasures that I have never seen before, but I cherish them all the same.

Vintage Treasures

100_2083Wondering who once owned them, and what stories they might tell. Somewhere in time the owners cherished them too.

DSC05855

100_2083I love collecting timeless works of art that stand the test of time. I wonder, was it the love that was poured into these objects that gave them life even now?

Vintage Joy

100_2083A lovely lady who might have practiced her penmanship in hopes of securing a job. A child playing with dominos and wishing upon nursery rhyme dreams.

DSC05852

100_2083Were these time pieces marking the chapters of their lives as they readied themselves to go to school for the first time, walk down the aisle, have their first child, or wait silently in their August years?

Great Aunt Adelaide's attic

100_2083As I look at each little treasure, and hold it’s wonder in my hand, I am filled with such lovely inspiration.

DSC05844

100_2083To me walking through one of these glorious little shops and taking home a small piece of someone’s history touches my heart.

DSC05854

100_2083It’s a funny thing, I seem to cherish these objects even more than my own. Yet someday treasures of mine will remind some young woman of how dearly I loved each one.

DSC05855

100_2083Sometimes I thought that perhaps I was frequenting these kinds of stores, reaching back in time to touch a sweeter more gentle time.

My Grandmother 1918The joy I feel when I stroll through one of these special places always connects me to a time that I ran home when the street lights came on, and rushed to sit at the supper table with so many of my loved ones, who have now gone home to be with the Lord.

My creation

100_2083The people who own and love these shops are the “keepers of the memories.” In charge of minding each beautiful object until it finds it’s way back home to someone’s heart. I am thankful that there are these people, these keepers of the memories who feed my soul every now and again.

Such a wonderful post, Karen. My grandson and I were chatting on our special day last week, and he was remembering our trip to Disney World. We were exchanging memories.

He was quiet for a minute, and then he said, "Our memories are special, aren't they, Grandmom?" I told him yes our memories are our treasures of our lifetimes.

I hope my sweet boy will one day be the keeper of my memories.

What i like to do with some of my antiques is pass around an old black and white photo when i have guests for dinner. (none of the guests know any of the photos or tin types)

I ask them to share a "story" of this person-- it really is fun with tons of laughter and sometimes a tear or two.

Stunning as usual.

I love this post Karen and it inspires me too. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why we love these old things especially things that evoke such fond memories, not only for their beauty itself but for the feelings. Have a great start of the week.

Hi Karen
You have such a beautiful way of stating things. I love your idea that those shop owners are keepers of the memories. I haven't been to visit in awhile so I think I have some catching up to do!

Dearest Karen,
Aren't vintage photos and antiques the best? They fill the home with charm and warmth and I really love the last one of your Aunt...so very, very beautiful because it shows her doing something that was part of her world and time...those days are gone, but do live in our imaginations! I am so sorry that I cannot open up the attachments that you sent me!!! It just doesn't want to work! Have a great day, Anita

My favorite photo was the last one of your aunt -- how wonderful and whimsical! I also love the idea of a woman practicing her penmanship for a job...

Karen, I just love the way your mind works. These photographs are so lovely-they almost speak words. When you add your beautiful words, they do speak, and I always love what they have to say. laurie

Karen, I love this walk down memory lane that happened way before our time. I, like you, love these little shops with treasures of loved and cherished memories.

Your pics really are special. Your words fill in the gabs. When I had my shoppe in an antique mall, I used to love to walk the aisles browsing for these keepsakes.

Yes, the walls of these shoppes, the inn keepers and owners, really are "keepers of the memories."
One day we might contribute to the treasures!

I also wanted to say, I remember the time when we had to be in when the street lights came on. Such a sweet, simple and easier time, before 24/7 TV. internet and cell phones. The time when a letter was really a letter hand written and cherished.
Thank you for sharing a thoughtful and beautiful post!

Hugs to you and blessings always.

These things are all so beautiful! They capture tour imaginations and make us feel that there really was a simpler time. Today has it's beauty too, and as you say, some day someone will think these were the best of times and the things we have are beautiful too. I wonder if the previous generation loved old things better than the things they had!?
